2023 Nissan Altima vs 2023 Mazda 3

Nissan's popular midsize sedan received an update for the 2023 model year. It arrived with more technology features and some enhanced styling. The Mazda 3 is a smaller car but can compete with the Altima in the sedan market space. Take a look at a comparison between the two and see why the Nissan Altima comes out on top.

Power

Right out of the gate, the Altima has more power than the Mazda 3. The base engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engine with 188 horsepower, but you can get the Altima SR with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 236 horsepower. The Mazda 3's power starts with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that delivers 155 horsepower, and the upgraded engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 186 horsepower.

Performance

If you want all-wheel drive, you can only get it with the Altima. Nissan offers it with the SV, SR, and SL trims, and it comes standard with the high-end Platinum. There's a slight drop in horsepower if you opt for all-wheel drive. The Mazda 3 comes only with front-wheel drive.

Safety Technology

Both the Altima and the Mazda 3 come well-equipped with safety technology. Both have forward collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic braking, but the Altima also comes standard with a rear seat reminder that lets the driver know if they've left something behind in the back seat before they walk away from the car. In a side-by-side comparison of the 2023 Nissan Altima and the Mazda 3, the Altima comes out on top with its power, option for all-wheel drive, and added safety features.
